TentED’s next project—our first as an independent organization—is one of our most ambitious yet. Our goal: outfit 10 classrooms in a school for refugee children with desks, chairs, whiteboards, and teaching materials.
The school, currently being built by our partners, World Orphans, in Soran in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, will open on September 21, 2016. The cost to fully furnish each classroom is $1,250. We plan to raise $12,500 by September 1 so that on Day One all 10 classrooms will be ready to inspire every girl and boy to study and succeed.
This project will be our third with World Orphans, a Colorado-based nonprofit that has operated in the rural Soran region since 2009. Currently, World Orphans provides a quality education for over 100 displaced Yazidi and Shabak kids from two of the most vulnerable religious communities in Iraq.
The new school will enable World Orphans to expand capacity to meet the long-term educational needs of displaced families living in Soran. With your generous support, TentED can continue our mission to advance education for children displaced by war.
Here is the cost breakdown to prepare one classroom before opening day:
Desks for 25 students/$875
Teacher's desk and chair/$125
Teaching aids, maps, and charts/$50
I am asking for your help to make this project a success. To be clear, “success” means that up to 300 children who have been displaced by war will have the chance to learn and thrive in an educational environment that nourishes their talents, encourages their potential, and gives each the opportunity for a brighter future – the same aspirations we have for our own kids.
