The need at Kobani Elementary runs deep as refugee families with children continue to resettle in the region.
It was a busy January for TentED and partner IVY. Besides providing teachers at Kobani Elementary School with a one-time stipend to help them make ends meet during tough financial times, TentED and IVY partnered to provide the school with a comprehensive package of support for the faculty and students.
First, working with teachers to identify children from low-income families who urgently needed warm clothing, TentED purchased and distributed quality winter jackets to 51 children.
Second, TentED bought a computer and a printer for teachers and faculty at Kobani so they no longer have to do their work on equipment borrowed from friends and relatives.
Third, we doubled down on school transportation, which more than any other factor decides whether displaced and refugee children are able to consistently attend school. TentED funded the transportation of 260 refugee children at Kobani for the month of February, allowing our partner IVY to address other priorities during this unprecedented crisis.
